In today’s society, it has become the norm to stop eating excessively fatty foods and focus more on our health and well-being. In addition to a new influx of healthy, organic, diet and GMO-free foods, manufacturers of cookware have also been stepping up their game when it comes to creating tools that can aid in healthy cooking, be it by adding new coatings or just improving their old products. We’ve had the great opportunity to test out some of these products and see the results of their efforts.
Sure, fried foods may not scream “health,” but that doesn’t mean we need to forgo using a pan for cooking. There’s nothing else quite like it available. New inventions like crock-pots keep springing up in the market. You can also use them to fry food, but you can’t do it in quite the same way as with a pan. But, with the growth of improved cookware, comes a new, healthy alternative to the standard frying pan.
I received the Tefal Jamie Oliver Professional Series pan made of cast aluminum at my place of work. I couldn’t sneak it in unnoticed because of its size, so my colleagues immediately gathered around me and demanded to let them see the new pan. The pan came packed in a nice box with Jamie Oliver’s picture on it. The packaging is beautiful enough to make for a good present. Inside there was a small booklet with the product information. Upon examination we have found the pan to be very useful, handy and of good quality. It has made a positive impression on everyone.
The pan sits perfectly in your hand. It is neither too light nor too heavy but is exactly of the right weight. Its handle has a nice length and is very comfortable to hold. I was a bit surprised because there is no top, but the pan has two spouts on the sides. Come to think of it, those spouts might come in very handy, especially if you are using the pan to make sauces. The pan is made of the cast aluminum and the handle is attached with pins. Its sides and bottom are rather thick and durable which means they disperse heat evenly when cooking and it will last for a long time afterwards. The pan has all utensils from the Tefal Jamie Oliver Professional Series has a non-stick coating. This type of coating can withstand metal utensils and is non-stick, which allows you to easily fry with minimal oil use. Washing a pan with such a coating is very simple. It does not require any hard effort: just rinse it with water.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a thermo-spot. It is a really handy thing and is extremely easy to get used to. When the pan is heated up to 180º, the Thermo-Spot becomes red which indicates that you can start cooking. The pan has the same design as the other utensils of the same series. I would call it ergonomic and stylish, with its own character.
Thermo-Spot makes cooking your food easier while the new coating can’t be scratched by any utensils, non-sticky and is easy to wash. This pan lets you fry practically without oil. I really prefer these kind of new products. Grandma’s iron pans are certainly good, but they don’t bear comparison with the new and fancy competitors, which obviously win. The choice is always up to you, but it is nice that we can now choose from a wide variety of options.
